The project is primarily configured as a sports facility serving the city, providing a balanced mix of sports, recreational, and, if necessary, educational functions to serve the building.
Among the uses of the new building, it must ensure both the connection with the redevelopment path of the former Pertile military area to be designated as an urban park accessible to the entire community, and the provision of a space, if available, dedicated to physical activities for the students of the adjacent “Italo Calvino” middle school, which currently lacks a gym.
The project includes the construction of a sports facility for basketball, volleyball, five-a-side football, and rhythmic/artistic gymnastics, with provisions for a spectator area, changing rooms and services for referees and athletes, rooms for equipment storage, first aid, and an office available to the user organizations, public services, and the necessary entrance halls and related accessory rooms; also, to obtain possible future approvals from the National Sports Federations concerning the planned sports disciplines, the spectator area may eventually be equipped with stands for 90 seats.
The building will be equipped with a photovoltaic panel system and will utilize the renewable energy generated by them through heat pumps to heat and cool the gym, ensuring high energy efficiency. The construction of the adjacent public parking lot is considered a separate complementary intervention to the building’s construction and is therefore not part of this project.
