A biogas plant for power generation is a complex, multifunctional facility designed to convert biomass into biogas and then into electricity. This process primarily makes use of anaerobic digestion, a technique that uses microorganisms to decompose organic matter in the absence of oxygen, producing biogas, which consists mainly of methane and carbon dioxide.

Pretreatment

The process begins with the collection of biomass, which can include agricultural residues such as cattle slurry, poultry manure and corn silage, as well as organic household waste, sewage sludge and agro-food waste. These materials are stored in special tanks or silos and undergo pretreatment to ensure that they are properly prepared for anaerobic digestion.
